Upcycle Your Candle Jars: Creative Ideas for Reusing Candle Containers

DIY Planters

Turning Candle Jars into Stylish and Functional Home Decor

If you’re a candle enthusiast, you’ve likely collected a few empty jars that are just too beautiful to toss. Thankfully, there are plenty of ways for reusing candle containers around the house! With a little creativity, you can turn them into stylish, functional decor that adds both charm and sustainability to your space. Here are a few of our favorite ideas to upcycle your empty candle jars into something practical and beautiful.

1. Chic Planters for Small Plants

One of the most popular ways to reuse candle jars is as planters. Small plants, succulents, and cacti look right at home in these containers, and candle jars offer a modern, stylish look that works well with any decor. Just add a small layer of pebbles at the bottom for drainage, fill with potting soil, and plant away! It’s a perfect way to add greenery to your space while keeping your favorite jars in use.

2. Desk Organizers for a Clutter-Free Workspace

Need a spot to organize your pens, pencils, paperclips, or even makeup brushes? Cleaned-out candle jars make excellent desk organizers. Their sturdy, weighted bases keep them from tipping over easily, and their sleek look adds a touch of elegance to any workspace. You can even customize them by adding paint, labels, or ribbons to match your office style.

3. Bathroom Storage for Cotton Swabs and More

Bathrooms often need a little help in the organization department, and empty candle jars are just the thing to add style and function. Use them to store cotton swabs, cotton rounds, or even hair ties. Concrete jars can add a touch of sophistication to your bathroom shelves, keeping everything neatly in place and easy to reach.

4. Kitchen Containers for Dry Goods and Herbs

For smaller jars, consider using them as storage containers for kitchen essentials like dried herbs, loose tea, or spices. If you love organization, adding a few candle jars to your kitchen setup can help keep things tidy and visually appealing. Just be sure to clean and sterilize the jars before use to keep your ingredients fresh.

5. Decorative Holders for Tealights

Why not let one candle make way for another? Empty candle jars can be repurposed as tealight holders, creating a layered glow when lit. Place them around your home for soft, cozy lighting or line them along a dining table for a beautiful, rustic centerpiece.

6. Craft and Hobby Storage

If you’re a crafter, you know that keeping supplies organized can be a challenge. Candle jars are perfect for storing buttons, beads, yarn, or even paintbrushes. Adding labels and staking them making it easy to identify what you need, and they keep everything tidy and in one place.

7. Beauty and Self-Care Holders

Candle jars can also be great for storing personal care items. Use them to hold hair accessories, makeup sponges, or even travel-sized beauty products. Place these jars on a vanity or in your bathroom for an organized, spa-like feel.

Tips for Cleaning Out Candle Jars

Before transforming your jars, it’s essential to clean them out properly:

  1. Remove Leftover Wax: Pour hot water into the jar to loosen any remaining wax. The wax will float to the top as it cools, making it easy to remove. Alternatively, if you have a BiirCo Candle, you can remove the labels and heat in the oven at 150 degrees Fahrenheit (or less) until the wax melts. Once it's melted, you can create wax melts, or toss out and wipe the jar clean.

  2. Clean the Jar: Wash the jar with warm, soapy water, using a scrubber to remove any soot or residue.

  3. Polish and Dry: Wipe the jar dry, and it’s ready for its new life!

Making Your Space Beautifully Functional

Upcycling candle jars is a fun way to reduce waste and add personality to your home. Whether it’s a chic planter or a stylish storage container, each of these reuses adds character and functionality to your space. Get creative with your jars and enjoy the satisfaction of turning something simple into a stylish, eco-friendly addition to your home!
